GPS Tracking for Cars – My buddy has a Tortoise in her backyard, but she wants to see it more often.. what should she do?

January 9th, 2010 No comments

My little buddy lives in the Southeast quadrant of America and has a tortoise living near her house in a little hole in the ground. Every now and then, she sees it come out and wander around the neighborhood, she has even touched it once. She wants to see this tortoise more often, how could she tempt it to come out of its hole more often? Also, is there any easy way for her to track the tortoise, such as GPS tags or radio-frequency tags?

and my little buddy also needs a tune-up for her car which has sat dormant for a few months, how much will that cost her?

and advice/info is helpful

Best Answer: Tortoises in the wild hide a lot, so it is acting normally.

It would be massively illegal to radio-tag it- all American tortoises are protected by law and really should not be fed, touched, or interfered with in any way. This law is often ignored, but it is usually aggressively enforced with tortoises.

If she wants to see it more often she should consider a web cam, or infrared beam-style alarm to let her know when it is out.

GPS Tracking for Cars – Can your parents track you?

    January 2nd, 2010 No comments

if your car has a gps system it in becaus of onstar, can your parents really find out where you are? or is that just a lie to make me tell the truth?

Best Answer: Why, do you have something to worry about?

    • Well, they can do it a few ways.
If they pay for a tracking service, it can be done with the onstar system,
It can also be done through a range of available third party tracking services now available.

The good and the bad of the computer age. But if you get their access code, you can track them???

    • With good cause they can track the auto or can buy tracking device as I use to track my fleet of trucks and my kids. They would probely do better to track your cell phone.
    • only if its an emergency. onstar cannot be flooded with snoopy parents calling to track their kid
    • almost all vehicles are traceable, the government just feels better that the majority does not know that or care anyway. with onstar your parents can track your every move. would they? thats another story. hopefully they have something better to do. there are also several gps tracking units that are inexspensive and can be place anywhere on a vehicle and tracked via satelite, and monitored through the computer at the click of a mouse like onstar. dont freak i’m sure your parents have no idea how to use it properly to track you. but if you wana test it just go someplace off limits and see if it ever comes up in a conversation.
    • They can track you through your cellphone……………
    • Whoever’s name is on the Onstar account can purchase this service and see where the vehilce is.

GPS Tracking for Cars – Lost phone?????????????????????????…

    December 21st, 2009 No comments

I lost my cell phone! This is the 2 time this week! I can’t get another one. I had one of the last razors of it’s type in the US. It had so many pictures of my home; Alaska. I can’t find it and I can’t get a new one anymore!!!!! Any tips for finding it? Is there a such thing as GPS tracking? It’s on silent so I can’t call it. I might have left it at Church. When I last saw my phone I

1, Recorded a few notes in it during Bible study

    2. Put it in my Bible and left it there

    3. Used it as a bookmark, then decided it’s not such a great idea, then took it out

    4. Went in the car ( I wasn’t driving that time, I’m sure)

    5. Now here’s where it gets a little fuzzy, I got out, went into the living room, put down my Bible and went off on my own business.

    6. Frantically searching everywhere. I called the Church, they couldn’t find it (We have a VERY simple church… it’s not there)

I’ll try out every answer. Best answer is the one that works, reassures the most, or really truly helps!

Thank you! This phone really means a lot to me

    *I don’t have back-up or a bluetooth attached*

Best Answer: call your service provider. maybe they have a tracking device built in on cell phones. try calling it to see if it is in your house

    • I do not know what to tell you except to pray. Ask God for guidance in helping you look for your phone. If its important to you, then its important to God. Good Luck and I hope AND pray that you find your phone!!

GPS Tracking for Cars – I REALLY NEED HELP!!!?

    December 20th, 2009 No comments

ok i finally got the right money and time of year to get this adorable begle and scince thursday 4/17/08 she has been missing. 3 people have said they saw a lady and daughter get out of their car and drive off with her scince then also no one has seen the car or my baby. she is microchipped and on her collar is her name and number engraved into it and sdhe had all her tags as well im wondering if maybe microchips can have gps tracking on there because i need toget some sleep i havent been able to sleep because of it so please help me in any way you can and yes we put up flyers

Best Answer: Nope no GPS in microchips, sorry. Have you called all the local vets and animal shelters? Make sure they all know that if they find a beagle to scan it with the right reader. If she was stolen by some kid and her mom they prolly want her as a pet which means they’ll take her to a vet sometime and when the vet scans it you’ll get your dog back.

    • Well, I’m sure if it has a microchip in it you can go to whoever used to own it and see where they had it installed or where they put the microchip in it or whoever did it. Then what you could do is see if it has a GPS Tracking on it, because I think most of them do. If it doesnt I’m EXTREMELY sorry. I hope you can finally get to sleep when this is over and find awesome caring answers from people all over! If this doesn’t help I’m sorry I tried my best. :)
    • if she is microchipped then they should be able to track her. as for the collar, i’d kiss that good bye because if she was stolen the theives may have disposed of it by now. good luck and i’m sorry to hear this
    • talk to the vet that microchipped her, and you can ask about a gps in the chip if there isn’t one, wait and pray. ask the neighbors and people you know to keep and eye out for her. i hope you find her!
    • I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. I think they can only track microchips to an owner if the dog is turned into the Humane Society. I would try calling your local shelters to see if there’s anything else you can do.

      Good luck!

    • no sorry they dont have GPS. :( the only way they work is if the Vet scans the chip the chip will give the Vet your name, phone number, address etc. Sorry! Good luck finding your doggie. :P
    • don’t get mad over it
    • I’m sorry to hear about your dog
    • where r u
    • Microchips can not be GPS tracked, unfortunately. Since it appears she was stolen and did not just run away, get the police involved, file a report with the vehicle description and a description of the two people that were seen taking her. The good news is, if you do see her or find her, you can prove you own her because of the microchip. Keep posting signs, target places like vet offices and pet supply stores, hopefully someone will see her and give you a call. You can also post on your local Craigslist Lost board, and there are several websites for lost animals. Good luck in your search, I hope you find her!

GPS Tracking for Cars – Taxing us by the mile. I know Obama nixed it?

    December 15th, 2009 No comments

If he changes his mind about this tax what will happen to those who drive older cars like from the 50s, 60s, and 70s? These cars typically don’t have any onboard electronics other than a stereo system. …so how would a GPS system (needed to track the miles driven) work with older cars? I would hate to think that I would have to get rid of my classic car.

Best Answer: There would just be stiff fines for odometers that don’t work or have been tampered with and there would be regular inspections.

They may just do optical license plate reading like they do for the congestion zones in London or read RFI tags, either the tags you use for toll roads or they would start embedding them in the license plates or window sticker.

It may be a combination of these methods as a disabled odometer on a car that has been recorded to regularly pass several checkpoints would be clear evidence of a non-compliant odometer.

The argument for replacing the fuel taxes with taxes per mile is that modern fuel efficient cars generate less tax revenue but still require that the same amount roads be built and maintained.

I don’t think it’s a good idea just yet, maybe when automated guideways allow private vehicles to act as dual mode PRT vehicles with perhaps inductive power to recharge batteries while in the guideways. That is if they ever figure out a way out of the liability issues of automated travel.

    • It’s a stupid idea, and I doubt it will ever pass. First off, it is invasion of privacy. Where I drive is no ones business but my own. Secondly, we already pay a gasoline tax, why add more taxes on top. What about people that have no choice but to drive a long distance to work outside of public transportation options? Why should they be unfairly taxed because they work 100 miles from home?
    • No, you can keep an old car.

They won’t need the odo, they’ll be installing a satellite positioning system in your car to make sure they get the exact miles you’re driving. That’s why some have privacy concerns about this.

      It’s very scary.

    • In some states, they have pay-by-the-mile insurance. Usually you just have to send in a sworn statement or a photograph of your odometer. If they suspect something they may send someone out to check.
    • It wouldn’t affect me – the odometer in my trusty old Explorer doesn’t work and I doubt some bureaucrat will follow me around logging my miles. And if I get a new vehicle, I’m bright enough to “repair” that one also.
