My car was broken into and my Tom Tom GPS was stolen. Is there any way it can be tracked?
Best Answer: If they can trace a cell phone through gps that’s inside, they most surely can trace a global positioning system itself. Don’t know how far law enforcement or company will go to track it. Many factors affect tracking such as if it’s on or not and if you have the serial number on the gps. sorry for the loss. more than likely you will end up buying a new one.

A couple weeks ago, someone broke into my car and stole a $1200 stereo system similar to this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?… We reported it to the police, but they can’t really do anything about it and the insurance won’t cover it because it wasn’t originally a part of the car. Is it possible that I could call Kenwood or something and get them to track the GPS (obviously only if someone is using it)?
Best Answer: You can argue with your insurance if you have legal cover, and if your fully comprehensive all should be covered, they’ll try anything to save themselves from paying out when the time comes. You have nothing to lose so give it a go.

Someone has a car under my name and I need to get it back. I have no idea who the person driving it is or any info on the vehicle. I know it’s a Mercedez Benz, but I want to know if it has GPS, some sort of tracking system, or Onstar. Help
Best Answer: GPS provided from the dealership, onstar is a GM exclusive product only.

If I were to buy a GPS System from best buy or somewhere and use it in my car would my car become traceable?.. or are you only able to be tracked when a GPS system comes with the car? I’m pretty sure it does, but I just wanted to be sure… sometimes I’m technologically challenged
Best Answer: GPS devices are receivers only unless you buy a specific device that has tracking capability. This means that they are like an AM/FM radio and don’t send out their own signal and are not trackable.
You can find more information about GPS devices and great deals on them at http://www.sourcegps.com

Govt now has a law that they can put a tracking device GPS on your car so they know where you are at all times. Are you libs okay with that if they show up at your door telling you they are putting one on your car. If they see you dealing or buying drugs they can follow you.
Best Answer: No, I won’t be OK with it. But I am a not a ‘lib’ either. Now, of course, you’ll get the ‘driving is a privilege’ blather from Liberals who are OK with any and all things government does since their Messiah Obama got elected, including Happily surrendering their constitutional rights ‘for the good of the many’, their fellow comrades.
- Google is a private company, not the government. They take pictures of things that it has never been illegal for anyone to take pictures of, from public vantage points. It’s the technology that has changed, not the government.
As far as the GPS goes, most new cars already have them. They will not put them in older vehicles, just wait to phase them in slowly… that’s how they operate. You likely already have one on you at all times.. that tracks and records everywhere that you go. It’s your cell phone.
Please cite your source for this ‘new law’.. I’ve not heard of it.
It’s another reason that I will keep my old cars running forever.
- I have no problem with it…..
… but it’d be a shame if it accidentally got knocked off, shorted out or otherwise broken – wouldn’t it???
Who’s gonna maintain it?
heh, heh, heh
- If you have OnStar you already have a GPS in your car.
- 1. source needed
2. good luck trying to put a tracker on a car going 120mph
- Hate to tell you but it has been there for a decade. What about the census taker with a GPS locater for your front door? Why?
- It’s not the car I’m worried about. In the not too distant future they’ll have one up our a**.
